In April 2024, we launched the very first Maximus Derba’s Mission Educational Luncheon — an annual event created to raise funds in support of both Max’s mission and his memorial scholarship. The luncheon was about more than raising money; it was about bringing our community together over a shared meal, with stories, laughter, and companionship.

We were honored to welcome guest speakers from Ronald McDonald House and Valerie’s House, who shared both their journeys and the vital resources they provide — from supporting families caring for children with cancer to helping others navigate grief and healing after loss.

Adding warmth and joy to the day, Colleen Mattfield delighted everyone with her sweet (and very funny!) memories of teaching Max in her second grade class. The afternoon closed with Declan Derba, who shared heartfelt memories of his brother and spoke about how he continues to live each day in Max’s honor.
